The Carpathians are known for their peaks and waterfalls, but sometimes true wonders are hidden below — where rivers carve their way through the rocky massifs. The Chemyhiv canyon near Mykulychyn is just such a place. It’s a narrow gorge formed by the Prutets-Chemegivskyi River, which over centuries has carved a deep and picturesque passage through the rocks.

A walk through the canyon is a journey into the wild. High rock walls, dense forests, cool pools, and small waterfalls create the feeling of being in the Carpathian jungle. It’s quiet here, yet you can sense the power of nature: the rocks are covered in moss, the sun’s rays filter through the treetops, and the sound of water echoes through the narrow corridors of the gorge.

For a long time, the canyon remained virtually unknown even to locals, but is now gradually becoming a popular destination. It’s a favorite among those seeking a less crowded location but wanting to experience the authentic atmosphere of the Carpathians. The canyon is especially attractive to photographers: the contrast of light and shadow, the emerald hues of the water, and the greenery create perfect shots.

Near the canyon, there are other interesting spots — Kaplyvets Waterfall, small “blue lagoons,” and scenic trails — that add even more variety to the walk. This place is worth visiting in the summer, when the greenery is at its most lush, or in the fall, when the canyon turns golden-red.

Chemehivskyy Canyon is a natural wonder that evokes peace and simultaneously amazes with its beauty. You can spend several hours here simply enjoying the silence and harmony, or make it part of a larger journey through Mykulychyn. It’s yet another reminder that the true magic of the Carpathians lies not only in the high peaks but also in the depths of the river gorges.
