Lake Rosokhan is located at an altitude of 1120 meters above sea level in a stone bowl of the Gorgany mountain range – on the slopes of the Arshitsa ridge. It has an elliptical shape, its size is relatively small and can vary significantly at different times (this depends on the amount of precipitation), on average, the length of the lake is about 60 meters, the width is 20 meters, and the depth is up to 4.5 meters.
There are two versions of the formation of this lake – either as a result of a landslide or as a result of a meteorite fall. It is interesting that the water in this reservoir is very cold – even in the hottest summer, its temperature does not rise above 11-15 degrees. It is also worth noting the ideal purity, transparency and extraordinary turquoise hue of the water filling the lake. It is simply impossible to convey the magical beauty of this unique miracle of nature in words! You must definitely see it!
It is also worth noting that there are no signs of any microorganisms in Lake Rosokhan. There have been attempts to breed fish in this reservoir, but none of these attempts have been successful. Scientists explain this by the presence of a number of minerals in the water. Of course, you can use this water for drinking; however, it is advisable to boil it before drinking.
You won’t be able to get close to Lake Rosokhan by car. Therefore, you need to go to the small village of Osmoloda (from our hotel “Chillax” the distance there is just over 140 kilometers), and then walk about 14 kilometers to the lake (the route is not too difficult, any healthy person can do it). Two kilometers before the reservoir, you will see several houses where you can rest, and if you wish, spend the night. In any case, such a trip to Lake Rosokhan will be an unforgettable event in your life!
