Breskul (locals often pronounce it as Bretskul) is one of the many mountain peaks of the Chornohora massif. The height of Mount Breskul is 1911 meters. It is located on the border of the Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia regions, between the mountains Hoverla and Pozhyzhevska. The distance from our hotel “Chillax” to Mount Breskul is about 26 kilometers (along the highway). The nearest settlement is the village of Bystrets, Verkhovyna district, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

The summit of Mount Breskul has a dome-shaped form: its northern slopes are quite steep, with precipitous rock scree; the south-eastern slopes are more gentle, covered with a variety of alpine and subalpine vegetation. At the foot of the mountain there is a dense coniferous forest, and higher up, dwarf spruce and cedar pines are occasionally found. In the forest, if you are here in the right season, you can pick a lot of berries and mushrooms. Wild animals here include deer, roe deer, wild boars, wild cats and even bears.

It should be noted that the path to the top of Breskul is quite easy along the gentle slopes – you can even take schoolchildren on a hike. You can also get to this peak along tourist trails, which are marked with red markers: from Mount Hoverla and from Mount Pozhyzhevska (approximate walking time along any of these routes is 1 hour to climb and 1 hour to descend). But in winter, inexperienced tourists should not take risks and not climb Breskul, because there is a high probability of falling rocks.

Between these mountain peaks there are many high-mountain lakes, the largest of which is also called Breskul. Not far from here (on the slope of Hoverla) the Prut River originates – the highest mountain river in Ukraine. From the top of Breskul, there is an incredibly beautiful view of Hoverla and the entire Chornohora mountain range. So, if you go hiking here, you will certainly be pleased – the impressions will be unforgettable!
