Dovbushanka is one of the most iconic peaks of the Gorgany range, famous for the very “stone fields” that make these mountains so distinctive. Its elevation is 1,754 m, and this is a hike you remember not only for the views, but for the feeling of truly wild Carpathians: rock under your boots, crooked dwarf pines, wind on the ridge, and deep silence where it feels like the mountains are the only thing that exists.

Dovbushanka is often described as “a peak with character.” There are few easy gifts here: even in good weather the ascent is noticeable, and the rocky sections make you slow down and stay focused. But at the top you get that signature Gorgany panorama — rolling ridges, open meadows, and, on a clear day, distant silhouettes of the Chornohora range.

As local legend suggests, the name is linked to Oleksa Dovbush. Stories about “oprishky treasures” hidden somewhere in these mountains still circulate. Treat it as Carpathian folklore: historians have no solid proof, yet the legend adds a special mood to the hike — especially when you’re walking the ridge and realise how easy it is to believe old tales in places like this.

One important thing to know in advance: Dovbushanka lies within the Gorgany Nature Reserve, an area with strict conservation rules. Before planning a hike, check the current access regulations (some parts may require permission and tourist entry can be limited). If you want a similar “Gorgany vibe” with fewer restrictions, you can always choose an alternative route outside the reserve and still get the same rocks, space and mountain views.
