Grofa is a mountain peak (height – 1748 meters) in the Gorgany massif; located in the Rozhniativ district of the Ivano-Frankivsk region, within the boundaries of the nature conservation area – Grofa Landscape Reserve. This mountain has a conical shape. On its surface, glacial landforms have been preserved – cirques, moraine ridges. Up to a height of about 1450 meters, the slopes are covered with spruce forest, higher – rock screes (gregots).
Northwest of Grofa is Mount Moloda (1723 meters), to the east – Igrovets (1804 meters), to the southeast – Sivulya (1836 meters), to the southwest – Parenky (1735 meters), a little further and to the left – Popadya (1740 meters), north of Grofa you can see the Arshitsa ridge with the Gorgan Ilemskyi peak (1587 meters).
The nearest settlement to the mountain is the village of Osmoloda (Rozhniatyn district, Ivano-Frankivsk region, the distance along the highway from our hotel Chillax is about 140 kilometers, if you go directly on foot – almost three times shorter). The difficulty of climbing Mount Grofa is classified as average (that is, the route is designed for fairly experienced tourists). The length of the route is 11 kilometers, the time to pass at an average pace is 4 hours.
It is worth noting that climbing Mount Grofa is not entirely safe, because due to the peculiarities of its relief, avalanches often occur here. All tourists are informed of this very real danger not only by numerous warning signs, but also by a huge number of trees uprooted by streams of snow, broken and thrown by avalanches into gorges.
There are few tourists here, so you will feel a special atmosphere of solitude. You will be walking surrounded by huge coniferous trees, then making your way through the young growth of slender fir trees, which, despite the steepness of the slopes, sprout here. And also – a stream, which a little further will turn into the Kotelets River. Greenery all around, wooden bridges, there are practically no steep climbs, signposts – in a word, an idyll. Surely, at times it will seem to you as if you were in a fairy tale.
You can arrange such a fairy-tale ascent to Mount Grofa for yourself, if, of course, you want to.
