Yablunytsia pass (other names – Yablunytskyi Pass, Tatar Pass, Yasynskyi Pass, Berkut) is located on the southwestern outskirts of the village of Yablunytsia – this is on the territory of the Hutsul region (historical and ethnographic land of the Hutsuls) on the border of Ivano-Frankivsk (Nadvirna district) and Zakarpattia region (Rakhiv district). From our hotel “Chillax” to Yablunytsia pass – about 5 kilometers.

In the old days, this pass was most often called Tatar – this is due to the fact that it was here in the middle of the 13th century that a huge Tatar-Mongol army passed, which had already conquered Kyivan Rus and went on to conquer Europe. In later times, one of the main routes between the Galician Principality and Hungary passed here, and even later – between Poland and Romanian Transylvania. During the War of Liberation (1918-1919), Ukrainian troops crossed the Yablunytskyi Pass from the Western Ukrainian People’s Republic to Carpathian Ukraine.

The height of the Yablunytskyi Pass is 931 meters above sea level. It is located on the watershed of the Chorna Tysa and Prut rivers, in the saddle (narrowing) of the Yablunytskyi Ridge. On its slopes (mainly on the southwestern side) grow spruces, firs, cedar pines, and less often other trees and shrubs. The pass has observation platforms with magnificent views of the nearby Carpathian mountains and valleys.

Of course, there is also a cafe where you can taste various dishes of Ukrainian and Hutsul cuisine. The colorful souvenir market located on the pass is of particular interest to tourists and those who drive along the highway. Here you can buy gifts for your relatives, friends and work colleagues, as they say, for every taste and budget. Local residents offer:

  • honey and other beekeeping products;
  • mushrooms and berries;
  • medicinal herbal preparations;
  • various jewelry and amulets;
  • ceramic jewelry;
  • souvenirs and household items made of wood;
  • women’s scarves;
  • socks, leggings, gloves, mittens made of angora or sheep’s wool;
  • slippers, clogs, other types of shoes made of leather or sheepskin.

In general, the assortment in this market is huge, it is simply impossible to list everything. So, be sure to come here and choose everything you want!
