The Gorgany Nature Reserve is a very specific unique mountain range of the Ukrainian Carpathians, located on the territory of two regions – Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia. From our hotel “Chillax” along the highway the distance to this reserve is about 140 (and more) kilometers – it all depends on where exactly you want to go. The Gorgany Mountains are extremely difficult to confuse with any others. Most of them have steep slopes and treeless tops, and on the surface – numerous gray stone placers (gregots), covered with lichen and moss.

Translated from Romanian, the word “gоrgan” means “mound”. The most famous (and highest) peak of the Gorgan massif is Mount Velyka Sivula (height – 1836 meters). In addition to it, the following mountains are very popular among fans of active recreation: Mala Syvulya (1818), Ihrovets (1804), Visoka (1803), Bratkivska (1788), Gropa (1763), Dovbushanka (1754), Grofa (1748), Velyka Popadya (1740), Vedmezhik (1735), Parenky (1735), Moloda (1723), Strimba (1719), Chorna Kleva (1719), Durnya (1709), Borevka (1694), Bushtul (1691), Yaiko-Ilemske (1679), Korotkan (1679), Bert (1666), Sinyak (1665), Yaiko-Pereginske (1595), Horgan Ilemsky (1587), Khomyak (1542) and many other local mountain peaks.
We would like to warn all tourists: given the steep slopes and numerous rock scree, which in bad weather can become simply impassable and extremely dangerous to life – do not expose yourself to reckless risk and do not try to lay your own routes, because there are many marked hiking routes on the territory of the Gorgan massif (and their number increases every year).

The best time for hiking in the Gorgan Mountains is summer and the first half of autumn, because in spring on some mountain slopes snow lies until the beginning of June, and in the second half of autumn prolonged rains begin. In winter, the depth of the snow cover here can reach 2 meters or more, which makes it almost impossible to climb the local mountains.
It should also be noted that it is the inaccessibility of the Gorgans that makes them especially attractive to many extreme tourists who are thirsty for thrills. By the way, in addition to everything else, you can often meet wild animals here – deer, roe deer, wild boars, wolves and even bears.
Every year in the Gorgans, exciting mountain races “Gorgany Race” are held – participants in these competitions in 30 hours need to overcome 90 kilometers of the most difficult path with all sorts of natural obstacles.

If you climb any of the Gorgan Mountains, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the Carpathians and part of the Carpathian region of extraordinary beauty. As for the local population, the Boykos and Hutsuls mainly live here, most of them are extremely kind and welcoming people who are happy to welcome guests, ready to conduct excursions around the nearby area, introduce local life and customs.
