Beer is one of the most popular low-alcohol beverages that we gladly enjoy to quench our thirst or make time with friends even more pleasant. But have you ever wondered how beer is actually made? And why different styles taste so distinct? Would you like to try unique varieties of live Hutsul-style craft beer?

If so, we recommend visiting the village of Mykulychyn, home to a Hutsul beer house of the same name. The distance from our Chillax guesthouse to the brewery is just 20 kilometers. Years of experience and careful selection of ingredients have helped local brewers create high-quality, flavorful beers sold under their own trademark — Hutsulske® Beer.

The Mykulychyn brewery has an interesting story. In 2000, local resident Vasyl Motruk purchased a plot of land and discovered an old beer cellar from 1878. This underground space was historically used for beer aging and storage. Inspired by the discovery, he founded the brewery in 2002. It has since gained recognition for its authentic approach and use of traditional recipes.

At the brewery, craft beer is made using the purest Carpathian spring water and only natural ingredients: two kinds of hops, four types of brewing malt, and both top- and bottom-fermenting yeast. Brewery technologists have developed dozens of original beer recipes that rival the best international examples.

During your visit, you’ll not only learn about the brewing process, but also see the historic cellar that still carries the spirit of centuries past. After the tour, we recommend dining at the “Pivnytsia” restaurant, opened in 2022, where you can try traditional Hutsul cuisine that pairs perfectly with local beer.

And if you’re already in Mykulychyn — don’t stop at just the brewery! There are many wonderful places nearby. Check out the Zhenetskyi Huk waterfall, one of the highest in the Carpathians, or take a walk through the Chemehivskyi Canyon, which leads to the Barvyshche waterfall and the stunning Blue Lagoon. For mountain lovers, a hike to Mount Yahidna (1,216 m) offers breathtaking views. You can also visit Vorokhta, known for its viaducts and cable lift, or Yaremche, with its Probiy waterfall and the “Hutsulshchyna” cultural restaurant-museum. All of this can be explored in a single unforgettable day!

Come to Mykulychyn and visit the local beer house! You’ll be warmly welcomed, taken on a full brewery tour, and shown how their signature beer is made. And when it’s time to taste Hutsulske beer — you’ll likely be pleasantly surprised!
